You also can't go wrong with Noita, it's definitely a different experience from Rain World but made with a similar degree of care and love. Games like Noita I love how everything can kill you in this game and was constantly reminded of Spelunky with all of the ridiculous deaths. The tech in the world as well, far future machines of incredible power that've never lost the industrial heavy machinery look. This means that the tiny elements that make up the landscape and characters have their own properties that: melt, burn, evaporate, explode, flow, float, support, stick and so on. In terms of trying to present creature behaviors that are more interesting or natural, they have some common groundĪesthetically there are some parallels as well, for example the Mudokon temples have a presentation that makes me think of Rubicon. Noita is platform adventure game in a world where each and every pixel is physically simulated. Paramites being chill up until the moment they're cornered, Scrabs being territorial and fighting eachother, the horror that is Fleeches. It has a high difficulty curve like many in the roguelike. While Oddysee and Exoddus are undeniably old-feeling games, for their day the creature behaviors were really unique and novel. Noita is a roguelike game, meaning the map is randomly generated and permadeath is always active. Wand tinkering skills will certainly help you, but imo, the 'early' game is like a 60/40 luck to skill ratio. Then I got lucky enough all in one go to beat the game and seemingly unlock a bunch of cool new shit. The Oddworld series is the closest I've come, although that largely comes from the worldbuilding and creature design moreso than feeling particularly similar to play. I had the exact same problem as you for a looong time. I've never really played another game like Rain World and I have a feeling that I might never again.
